Beach Volleyball Passing Drills
The first part of volleyball that you have to learn to perfect is passing the ball. It’s like dribbling in basketball. Beach volleyball passing drills are a bit different than indoor drills.
Two things that you will never do in beach volleyball are a pancake or learn to roll after you dive for a ball. Some beginners do try to pull off a sandcake, but they quickly learn to break the habit after they realize that it doesn’t work.
You are most likely aware of what peppering is, but if not let me take a second to explain it to you. To pepper is to warm up with someone by hitting, passing and setting the ball back and forward to each other. No volleyball net is required, just a ball and two people. It is the most common exercise to practice passing the ball, but it’s not the best one.
Balls are not going to be hit directly to you when you are playing a game, in fact the exact opposite will be happening. This is why you need to practice getting to balls and then passing them accurately in order to be a great beach volleyball player.
The best practice is to pass balls that are coming from the other side of the volleyball net. You need to practice passing serves of all types; fast, short, sky balls and floaters. Then you need to practice digging shots and hits. Not only do you need to be able to get a touch on those balls, you need focus on passing them to the middle of the court. What good is getting to a ball if you don’t pass it well once you get there?
Two people is all you need to get a great practice in for passing volleyballs. Set up beach volleyball passing drills that will help you get better and focus on anything that is causing your ball not go where you want it to end up.
