Ace- A serve that doesn’t get returned.

Jumbo Shrimp (Rainbow)- A high arch shot that goes up and over the defense and lands in the back court.

Cobra- When you poke the ball with your finger while you fingers are straight.

Pokey (hoof or camel toe)- A shot made with knuckles of your first two fingers.

Gator- When you dig a ball with your hands open and wrists touching each other so it looks like a gators mouth.

Hubby Wife- When the ball drops between you and your partner and there is no communication about who is going to get it.

Floater- A serve with no spin that floats.

Kong- A one handed block

Phone Booth (roof or stuffing)- When you block the ball straight down like Phil the Beijing Beast Dalhausser.

Cutty (cut shot)- Shooting the ball at a sharp angle.

Line- Hitting straight down the line.

Angle- Hitting across the court.

Langle- The mix of line and angle that gets called because of a mess up on the setters speech ability.

High Line- Doing a high shot that goes over the block down the line.

Chicken Wing- When you dig the ball from you elbow like a chicken.

Spear- Digging the ball with one arm.

Shank- When the ball bounces off your arms or arm to an undesired location.

Six Pack- When someone spikes that ball into someones face.

Nectar (butter)- A perfect set.

Deep Dish- When the set is brought down below the chin.

Pepper- One of the most popular beach volleyball drills to warm-up when you pass, set and hit the ball to your partner.

Pancake- When the hand is place on the ground (on a hard court) and the ball bounces off of it.

Sand Cake- When an indoor player trys to do a pancake in the sand.

Rally- The only point system that is used in volleyball now. When every point counts as point no matter who served the ball.

Let Serve- This is when the ball touches the volleyball net and continue over and in the court, which counts as a point for the serving team.

Kill- A hard spike that is hit so hard it can’t be dug.

Crafty- Usually shorter players that can place the ball in difficult places to dig.

Joust- When two players jump up and contact the ball at the same time above the net.

Paint Brush- When the hitter almost completely misses the ball when spiking and only hits it with their finger tips.

Arm Set (bump set)- When a player doesn’t feel confident enough with their beach volleyball set using hands so they set the ball from the arms.

Side Out- When the team receiving the serve score the point.

Now when you watch some AVP beach volleyball you will understand what they are screaming out on the court.
