Vertical Jump Exercises for Volleyball
Vertical jump exercises are a little different than vertical training for basketball but many of the workouts are the same. One thing that you don’t ever have to worry about when training to jump higher in volleyball is that you don’t have to jump with a ball in your hands. This is good because you can focus on using your arm swing more to help increase your vertical leap.
The first exercise that you will learn to love is the squat. Squats alone will not make you jump higher but combined with other workouts they will help you increase your jumping ability greatly.
When doing squats make sure you have proper form and don’t go too deep because that will put unwanted pressure on your knees. You should never feel any type of pain in your knees or back when doing squats. It will burn in the muscles of your legs and even in your butt. But if you feel any type of pain, you should either lighten the weight or stop doing them until the pain ceases.
Cleans are another great exercise to jump higher. This also requires proper form and might take a few weeks or months to get the form correctly. While trying to perfect the form make sure to use very light weight. Once you have good form, cleans will help you in your explosive jumping power.
Plyometric workouts are a crucial part of any vertical training regimen. Plyos are done by jumping and allowing only minimal time on the ground between each jump. These jumps are not little jumps like jumping rope but high intensity jumps where you jumping your highest each and every time.
